Description
On-Q Home has created a unique wireless solution that is geared toward new construction in the residential market. The On-Q Home solution uses a Motorola Wireless Access Point, which creates an IEEE 802.11g WLAN (Ethernet Wireless Local Area Network). As the latest standard, 802.11g is backwards compatible to 802.11b.
To facilitate a clean versatile solution, the On-Q Home WAP uses Power Over Ethernet (POE) to power the product over the CAT 5E cable. This allows the WAP to be located anywhere in the house and only requires a single CAT 5E cable to be run from the service center to the WAP.
The On-Q Home WAP also has a custom booster antenna to provide a strong uniform coverage of the home. This minimizes dead spots and shadows.
The ideal location for the WAP is high and central in the house. To facilitate this in an unobtrusive way, the On-Q Home WAP is recess mounted in the ceiling. A clean, shallow dome much like a speaker or smoke detector is all that is seen after the unit is installed. The POE wiring (a single CAT 5E cable) makes this easy to plan and to install.
Advanced engineering and a wireless access point mounted in the ceiling give you maximum wireless coverage and the freedom to connect to the network virtually anywhere in your home. Indoor coverage up to 100 meters (328 feet) and outdoors up to 400 meters (1312 feet). The On-Q Home wireless access point incorporates the 802.11g standard, the latest in wireless network technology. This provides data transfer speeds up to 54Mbps-almost five times faster than the older 802.11b standard. But it's engineered with backwards compatibility so you can use all of your current and older wireless access devices.
The wireless access point incorporates advanced security features so you can enjoy your favorite online activities with the peace of mind that your data is protected from the outside world. Wireless security features include:
- Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) with Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) or Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)
- 64-bit and 128-bit Wired Equivalency Privacy (WEP) encryption
- 802.1X access control
A CD-based installation wizard provides easy set-up of the wireless access point and a Web-based control system gives you easy ongoing control and management of all hardware functions.
The wireless access point is designed to be mounted in the ceiling, like a smoke detector or speaker. No additional equipment, power cables, or wires to clutter your desk or room means your network blends into any decor.
