This kind of construction with a spline was first used only for cables designated as Cat 6. The spline is used to separate the four (4) pairs from each other and to eliminate cross-talk. Verified up to 100 MHz, GE Smart ConnectionCable with a spline has tested out to more than 500 MHz.
This extremely durable design prevents damage during installation and increases pull-strength to maintain the cable rating after installation. The spline in the cable increases the pull strength substantially, insuring a robust cable even in the most difficult of installs.
